Coaches

Linda PhotoHead Coach:

Linda McLean:

This is my third year as head coach at EUTri. My background was originally in Hockey where I played at international level before turning to Triathlon. I have competed at everything from Sprint to Ironman in my Triathlon career.

I started coaching in 2001 and I am a Level 3 coach, as well as coaching at the Uni I also coached at Edinburgh Road Club and with the Scottish Foundation Squad.

I have been voted Triathlon Scotland’s Performance Development Coach of the Year twice.

I am a Tutor for British Triathlon so if you are looking to start coaching I will be delighted to help.

Coaches:

Dechlan PhotoDechlan Wilson:

My name is Dechlan Wilson. I am 23, graduated from Edinburgh in 2013 after 5 years in EUTri. One of my greatest sporting achievements was being crowned Scottish Schools Triathlon Champion 2007, a feat on a par with winning the Olympics. I have coached at EUTri in one form or another for 6 years now, so I have seen some of the worst swimming, running and cycling from university students ever…when we raced against Glasgow.  Mon  _  the  _  EUTRI.

Ben PhotoBen Munro:

I’ve been involved in triathlon for the last 3 years after joining EUTri in my 3rd year. I went from barely able to swim a length to competing in races all over thanks to EUTri! I qualified as a coach in 2012 and have since then been coaching within the club. Since graduating in 2013 my training has taken a side but I’m keen to pass on what I know to the club members and make sure EUTri win everything (Olympics included).

Louise PhotoLouise Waterston:

I started off as a swimmer when I was younger, moving onto mountain biking before taking up triathlon.  I joined EUTri at the start of my second year at Edinburgh and I’ve coached with EUTri for two years before going away on placement last year.

David PhotoDavid Monteith:

This will be my 3rd year as a member of EUTri and my 2nd as a coach. I have been involved in triathlon since the age of 15. The swim discipline is my favourite to both compete and coach in.

Vincent photoVincent Margerin:

Salutations, I am Vincent, I’ve been coaching triathlon for a year and a half. I am doing a PhD in Physics, but that’s just a cover for Triathlon. I often say my strongest leg is running as I have spent several years running very long distance to prep Inward Bound in Australia. But many months of injuries in my legs and some serious swim training have made me more of a swimmer so in all fairness I am most likely to have an impact on a race during the swim. My highest so far remains to be announced amongst the outsiders for a podium finish after T1 at the standard distance North Championships in France. Unfortunately I ruined that effort in the ride and by T2 the speaker had well (and, honestly, deservedly) forgotten my name!

Andrew PhotoAndrew Christie:

I am in 4th year doing chemical physics. I have been involved in triathlon for 8 years having come from a running background. With triathlon, I have competed across Europe, come 3rd in the British super series and been described as a “frightened chicken” on national TV. I am looking forward to taking a break from training to focus on coaching at EUTri this year.

If you are interested in getting involved with coaching please speak to one of the coaches or committee at training or send us an email: triathlon@ed.ac.uk
